Center #1: Main Idea Mazes
Students are given a main idea statement. In order for them to complete the maze correctly, students must shade in details that support the main idea center. Many of the details provided are on topic but do not support the main idea, so students must think critically.

Center #2: Main Idea and Details Matching Game
This is a 2 player matching game. There are 8 paragraph cards and 8 corresponding main idea cards. Students try to match up the paragraphs with their main idea.

Center #3: Main Idea and Details Sort
This can be an independent, partner, or small group activity. Students must match up details with the correct main idea. There are 4 main idea cards and 12 detail cards. All of the main ideas and details are on the same topic - the human ear. Students must think critically to determine which details match up with which main ideas.

This makes a great main idea review for your 3rd and 4th grade students.
The print version of the main idea workstations / centers are fairly low prep. The Main Idea Mazes just need to be printed and copied. The other two centers require a little cutting and optional laminating. The digital version is no prep.
