What educators are saying

My students always enjoy classroom yoga and this is a great way to incorporate English with the yoga they already enjoy!
This is a great resource. My students were slightly apprehensive at first, but it didn't take them long to fully embrace the concept.

Description

This lesson matches yoga poses to literary elements so that you can add movement and promote critical thinking in your English class. Research shows that sitting for long periods of time is horrible for both our brains and bodies. While we know that movement in the classroom is important, due to the nature of English classes, ELA students often find themselves needing to sit to read or write for long periods of time. Therefore, finding ways to add movement in your English literature class can be a challenge. This literary yoga resource is the perfect solution for adding movement in the English classroom.

You will get:

⭐10 PowerPoint slides with 10 different ELA skill poses

⭐ The ability to print the slides as full pages for learning stations

⭐ The ability to print the slides as small task cards

⭐Three styles to choose from (Earth Tone, Bright, Black and White)

This set includes ELA movement prompts for:

★Conflict and Resilience

★Internal and external conflict

★Flat (static) characters

★Round (dynamic) characters

★Plot Triangle

★Symbolism

★Mood

★Powerful quotes

★Point-of-View

★Insight

Here are some highlights of the ways to use this lesson:

☆ A no-prep story or novel review

☆A whole group brain break

☆Small group discussion starters

☆A fun way to wake students up

☆ A fun way to help students focus

****Note****The poses in this lesson are easy enough (or can be modified enough) that most all students and teachers will be able to participate. However, this lesson DOES require that teachers have a certain personality. Don't be afraid to laugh through some of these poses with your students when you need a lighthearted moment. You can also turn on some yoga music and lower the lights for a more serious think time.
