Description

This resource has been updated in May 2024 to use the new Spike App version 3.

This 804 page comprehensive teacher resource set explains the fundamentals of the Lego Spike Prime robotics system using the Lego Education Spike App. Included with the set is a PDF and PowerPoint slide deck that can be used to teach students about robotics and the Spike Prime platform.

LINK TO GOOGLE SLIDES VERSION IS INCLUDED ON THE LAST PAGE.

The set also includes a 804-page teacher’s handout that has guided notes throughout the entire slide deck. This can be used to help the teacher explain the slides and also provides tips on how to work with the students and the robots.

These lessons are designed to utilize the official Lego Education Spike App that can be downloaded onto an iPad or other devices. Through years of teaching robotics to students ranging from 3rd to 8th grade, I’ve learned that students need to be taught the fundamentals of robotics and have a general understanding of hardware and software before starting to handle the robots. This will give them a good view of the “big picture” and have an appreciation for the system that they are about to use.

The tutorials on the app are very helpful and have many useful resources such as videos and sample programs. However, if you let the students work at their own pace without guidance then many of the important concepts will be missed as students tend to race to the finish and not fully understand the material.

This lesson plan allows the teacher to give the students a basic introduction to robotics, use the tutorials in the app at a good pace and also challenge the students with new tasks and projects after completing the tutorials. This will have the students come full circle in their journey to explore the wonderful world of computer science and robotics.
