Jomo Kenyatta & Kwame Nkrumah
- Word Document File
Description
The lesson begins with an introduction to the problems nations in Africa faced as they fought for independence. Next, students work in groups of two and each student reads an overview of the independence movements in either Ghana (Nkruhma) or Kenya (Kenyatta). Students fill out a graphic organizer summarizing the problems the nation faced, how they fought for independence, and what the leader promised, and then they share their findings with one another.
After both students have shared, they work together to fill out a Venn diagram comparing the two independence movements. The lesson ends with students watching two brief videos about each country. If time permits, the class can discuss the key takeaways from each movement and how they were similar/different.
