What educators are saying

I think what cyber bullying looks like changes every few years, so this is a great resource because it was the flexibility that it can include those updates without having to be changed.
We have a community component to our school's different curriculums, and this was a great connector to our health classes.

Description

An Inquiry Based Learning Project your students are going to love!

The internet has given us new power to connect, but has also given rise to one of the largest social health crises that people have ever faced: Cyberbullying. While often dismissed as ‘not big deal’, cyberbullying has been identified as a leading or accompanying factor in the rise of mental health degradation over the last 20 years. It can happen 24 hours a day, it can follow us home from the outside world, and it can be relentless.

Our students should know the signs and definitions of cyberbullying, but more importantly they should know how to answer questions about the different causes and effects of cyberbullying, as it's only a matter of time before the next new communication platform shows up.

In this project, students are given a general overview of how inquiry projects work, and are then set loose to dive into an authentic research process. At the end, they are given the option of presenting in one of four different modes: A presentation, a podcast, a documentary film, or an essay.

This Package Includes:

  • An Overview of Inquiry Based Research projects
  • An Introduction to Cyber Bullying handout
  • The Assignment with Rubric
  • A Mini-Lesson and Video on Lateral Reading and conducting online research
  • 5 Pre-Selected Sources of reliable and vetted background information on cyber bullying
  • Research Note Template Sheets for student research
  • A One-On-One Check in Meeting Prep sheet (to prep them to chat with you)
  • Suggested Teacher Check In Questions (for you to follow up with them)
  • A final product Planning Page for students to choose the best format for presenting their research
  • A research Presentation Outline activity

Hope you enjoy!
