Infographic Project: Communicating Non-Fiction Information
This infographic project contains a two page teacher information sheet and five pages of student worksheets! Student worksheets include: a two page step by step "how to" on making a digital infographic, a project introduction page, a planning sheet and a project grading rubric.
About the Product
Infographics are a wonderful tool for analyzing and communicating information. This product contains materials for guiding students in using infographics in the classroom. This is an assignments you can use as a formative assessment in the middle of a unit or a summative assessment at the end of a unit. Students can also create an infographic project to communicate unit information or research as a summative assessment .
The step by step guide for creating an infographic is designed as a reference for students to keep and use throughout the year. Using this product requires signing up for a free piktochart.com account. You do not need to know how to use the website before purchasing this product. The activity sheets (project introduction, rubric, and planning page) are designed for a formative or summative assignment.

Using this Product in the Classroom
I have used this activity in an 8th grade classroom. I spent one day of class modeling the "how to" of the site (and providing the worksheet for student to keep as a reference) and introducing the project (with the infographic project page). We spent a second day completing the "planning page". Each student researched to compile their own data. This was done by students looking back through class notes and using devices to research additional facts. The students then had a week to design their infographic at home. They then had to share the infographic digitally to our class page and print out a copy to be hung up in the classroom. If we had been able to book the computer lab we would have needed approximately 2-3 days in school for students to work and finalize their infographics. Their final infographics were professional and excellently done - they look like they could be published and shared on instagram!
I have used this as a summative assignment at the end of a unit. I will use the assignment again for a formative assessment and have the students create an infographic from the textbook reading in a later unit this year.
