What educators are saying

My students loved doing this for their final exam at the end of the school year. They were able to look back at pictures of themselves (and their friends) and have some fun memories. I got to hear a lot of fun stories as they worked through this project! Such a great activity!
I used this for a project and sub-day work for my Intro to Health Sciences class while I was gone to a conference. It worked out perfectly and I will use it in other classes. The kids understood what needed to be put into the project and the pre-created rubric was helpful.

Description

What do you get? This 8 page document is a step-by-step project checklist for Intro to Healthcare students to complete while learning the stages of human growth and development. In this project, students will create a "scrapbook" about their life thus far, and their predictions for the future. The instructions are very specific about what should be on each page, including: the difference between growth and development, information on Maslow and Erikson, and details for each of the stages of life. It wraps up with a section on "end of life" choices and discussion questions. There is a detailed grading rubric included.

Class time required? It takes five class days to give this project the full attention it requires.

How can you use this? This project aligns with Georgia Introduction to Healthcare Standard IHS-11. Through the completion of this project, students will meet every sub-standard. I use this project in my class to guide our discussions on the different stages of human development. Rather than teaching them through PowerPoint, the students learn while completing this project. Each product will be completely different as the students pull in different aspects of their lives and their family's lives. In my course, this project counts as two major grades. We complete the entire thing in class so the students only need to work on it outside of the classroom if they do not use their time wisely or are absent. You could choose to let this be a homework project, or assign it over a break. Part of the requirements for each section are pictures of the student in a particular stage of life. I make sure to let students know in advance that they will need these!

What will you need? Access to a copier to make students copies of these instructions, the grading rubric, and the advanced directives worksheet. I let students have access to the Simmers DHO Health Science textbook to find the information they need, but this could also be found on the internet! I require that each student brings their own "folder" to house their project. Students will also need to bring pictures of themselves and their parents in.
