What educators are saying

My students love anything and everything that deals with art. This was a fun resource and time filler around Halloween.
My students loved using this resource. It is quite fascinating to see high school kids engaged in this activity.

Description

This informational text close reading and craftivity makes a perfect stand-alone assignment or an interesting informational text pairing for The Masque of the Red Death or the Romeo and Juliet masquerade scene. Students will read the informational text passage and answer close reading questions in the margins of the page. The craftivity allows students to design a mask that fits their personality based on a color connotation worksheet that is provided (they could also design a mask in the colors that best match a character). These masks can be used for bulletin boards or can be worn as real masks. Along with these activities, there is also a personal narrative writing prompt and brainstorming map if you want to extend the theme of the informational text.

The informational text focuses on finding word meaning within context and making inferences making it a wonderful test prep activity. Answer key is included!
