Harlem Renaissance PowerPoint Project - Black History Month

Are you looking for a Harlem Renaissance activity that will HOOK your students? In this short research project, students discover one writer, artist, or musician from the Harlem Renaissance and present this person to the class in a PowerPoint. This is an engaging, scaffolded research project to inspire all learners and can also be used as an informative Black History Month resource.

This project is a great introduction to the Harlem Renaissance because students take the lead in this research activity. If your students aren’t quite ready to present in front of the class, you can use small-group presentations or set up a Gallery Walk.

This Harlem Renaissance project was designed for an 8th grade enrichment class and was completed over five hour-long class periods. No out-of-school work was required. The first set of guidelines follows this time frame. You can give more time on the second version, which has no reference to number of days (you can write those in!) or required number of slides.
