I am beyond THRILLED today to share with you a brand new First Grade Math Curriculum that is designed to make math FUN, hands-on and engaging for First Grade students! If you are looking to get away from the boring box curriculum or even just supplement your current math curriculum, THIS is the Kindergarten Math curriculum for you! You can use the units as a whole math curriculum or as a supplement to any classroom or homeschool math instruction. They can be seamlessly implemented into any math curriculum!

How are the Units Covered?

Each unit will offer two components to help make the math units

meaningful and engaging for whole group, small group or individual lessons. The First Grade Math Units can be a supplemental resource for current math curriculum, or it can be used as a whole math curriculum. The curriculum is designed to give the teacher flexibility and freedom to rearrange the units to fit the needs of his/her students. Since there are so many practice pages and centers in each unit, the teacher can use many of the pages as a spiral review as the year progresses.

Math Centers Included in this Unit

*Center 1: Shortest to Longest - Number the objects from shortest to longest with numbers 1, 2 and 3. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

*Center 2: Number the thermometer degrees from shortest to tallest with numbers 1, 2 and 3. Record your answers on the recording sheet.

*Center 3: Comparing Units-Look at the units of measurement. Read the question and clip the correct answer.

*Center 4: What's the Difference?- Measure each object using unit cubes. Compare the lengths. Color the difference in units on the recording sheet.

*Center 5: Measuring Flower Stems: Measure the stem of each flower using the seed ruler. Record the lengths on the recording sheet and complete the statements.

*Center 6: Nonstandard Measurement- Use unit snap cubes to measure the objects. Record your answers.

*Center 7: Build and Compare it!-Use play dough to make the objects that are listed on the task card. Compare the lengths of the objects and record.

*Center 8: A "MAZING" Measurement- Use the worm units to measure how many are needed to get through the maze. Answer the questions on the recording sheet.

*Center 9: Who's the Tallest?- Pull a task card and the picture cards to match. Read the clues and put the cards in order. On the recording sheet, color the person who is the tallest.

*Center 10: Who Does it Belong to? Measuring Heights- Read the clues on the card to find out who owns each item.

*Center 11:Who Does it Belong to? Measuring Lengths- Read the clues on the card to find out who owns each item.

*Center 12: Scoop and Order- Using a spoon, scoop some unit snap cubes out of a bowl and snap them together. Repeat this two more times. Place them in order from longest to shortest.

*Center 13:Comparing Heights- Line up the animals from shortest to tallest. Answer the questions.

*Center 14: Comparing Lengths- Compare the lengths of the items on the card. Fill in the blanks to make the statements true.

*Center 15: Estimation Station (Paperclips)- Look at the length of the object. Estimate how many more paperclips you would need to measure it.

*Center 16: Estimation Station (Bears)- Look at the length of the object. Estimate how many more bears you would need to measure it

How to Teach the Units

The grade level standards for each practice page and center are clearly indicated on the First Grade Math Standard Sheet. There is no guessing as to what standard is being covered. The best part about these units is that you KNOW for sure that ALL the standards are being covered. This type of resources makes it easy for the teacher to supplement their current math curriculum or implement these units as new curriculum.
