Description

Try this “Escape the Jungle” activity with your students for a fun way to blend ELA, Math, and STEM lessons together! This classroom escape room gives students 5 missions to complete during the day. All missions meet 3rd and 4th grade math, ELA, and STEM standards and are meant to be completed in teams. In my classroom, we broke the students into 5 groups. Students are told that they need to complete all 5 missions in order to escape the jungle! These activities are the perfect way to challenge your students in a fun way and mix it up in the classroom!

Jungle Classroom Escape Room - 3rd & 4th Grade ELA, Math & STEM Activities Includes:

  • Mission #1- Preparing for the trek (adding and subtracting into the thousands)
  • Mission #2- ELA- grammar/capitalization/problem solving to break a code
  • Mission #3- Bar Graphing
  • Mission #4- Adding and Subtracting using Google maps/MapQuest, as well as mapping skills!
  • Mission #5- STEM activity!

Additional Included Materials:

  • Initial letters to students
  • All missions & instructions
  • Maps
  • Jungle Bucks

Needed Materials:

  • Rulers
  • Paper
  • iPads or computers would be best
  • Crayons or colored pencils
  • Scissors
  • Toothpicks
  • Straws
  • Mailing Labels
  • Yarn/String
  • Post-Its

Tips for Use:

  • Breaking your kids into groups of 4-6 and keeping these groups for the entire day will work the best. I would suggest moving students into groups or working at a table for the day.
  • This is meant to be a full-day mission, but you could definitely break it up over a 5 day period.
  • I suggest giving items to students in either manila folders or in small bins. This just helps keep everything organized.
  • Each time a team finishes a mission, they receive a letter. The letters are at the end of the direction packet.
  • I did this right before our state math test toward the end of the year, but this will work and be sure to engage students at any point!
  • As the day progresses, I give out JUNGLE BUCKS. I start everyone off with 8 JUNGLE bucks. I give out more JUNGLE BUCKS throughout the day as the kids answer questions correctly, do a great job problem solving, or working as a team. I can also take away jungle bucks if students are off task, etc. However, I try to keep it positive.

I know your students will LOVE these fun and engaging escape room missions! You’ll love how clear and simple the activities are to work on 3rd and 4th grade math, ELA, and STEM!
