What educators are saying

I think this is a great supplement to a unit on poetry. As you tackle various elements of poetry, students can use the packet to take notes and draw their understandings. The packet can then be used for studying the terms independently.
This is the best way that I have ever taught poetry terms to my middle school students. They really "got it" after this lesson!

Description

This Doodle Vocabulary resource will introduce your students to 36 words associated with poetry. Students will not only learn the new vocabulary words, they’ll also showcase their learning with doodles! A poetry vocabulary quiz is included! This resource is a perfect addition to any poetry unit!

You can use this resource in a variety of ways! You might:

  • Create a single packet filled with the doodle vocabulary pages that students can reference all year long.
  • Select specific pages that relate to particular pieces of poetry that students are studying and highlight words.
  • Teach all the words at once as in introduction to poetry.
  • Have students add definitions to their doodle vocabulary all year long.

Everything that you’ll need to use this set of Doodle Vocabulary is included in this resource! You’ll find:

  • Instructional tips and tricks for teachers
  • A Doodle Vocabulary cover page (This is great if students will be creating a vocabulary packet.)
  • Vocabulary Test for all words
  • Teacher Keys (vocabulary and test)
  • Bonus – Blank Doodle Page (Use this page to add more definitions or have students write their own poems on the whimsical doodle design.)

There are two versions of the Poetry Doodle Vocabulary pages included. This way, you can find the set that works best for your class or for individual students.

  • Doodle Vocabulary Guided Notes – In this version, students will complete the words’ definitions by filling in some notes on the lines provided.
  • Doodle Vocabulary Blanks – In this version, students will need to write out the entire definition for each word.

The words included cover poetry structure, sounds, forms of poetry, figurative language, and literary devices.
