This WINNING GRANT PROPOSAL for PICTURE BOOKS TO TEACH READING STRATEGIES was written in 2009. Through the grant, we were able to procure a SET OF K-5 PICTURE BOOKS for EACH READING STRATEGY worth over $2,400.

The comprehension component of a Balanced Literacy approach focuses on explicitly teaching six research-based strategies: questioning, making connections, making inferences, determining importance, visualizing, and synthesizing. Research shows that directly teaching these strategies is extremely effective for increasing comprehension of any text, regardless of genre. This proposal aims to support teachers and provide them with an easily accessible selection of picture books to model each strategy.

I wrote this grant for a private foundation, but you can either use this as is - This grant is EDITABLE with highlighted areas for you to fill in with your own information - or as a jumping off point to help you get started.
