Description
Do you want your students to learn about Earth Day in an engaging way? This Earth Day literacy and science centers pack has fun activities that can be used as a whole class writing prompt time, or for individual lessons as task cards.
This is the perfect set of literacy and science writing prompts if you have been teaching about Earth Day and/or the environment at any time of year and you want your students to be actively involved.
This print and go resource includes:
1. Persuasive Writing (How to get others on board with recycling)
2. Why care? The concept of "small world" is covered and students find things (clothes, pencils etc) that are made all over the world.
3. Students are actively sorting real items into garbage, recycling and composting.
4. Planting: 2 options: provide seeds for students to glue onto their page to see where their food comes from or plant a bean. (you will need cups, soil and bean seeds).
5. Garbage: students identify how they can reuse things for their lunch and they brainstorm what other ways they can reduce, reuse and recycle.
6. What environmental things would you do to help protect our Earth?
The digital version includes:
- Where items we have come from in the world (awareness)
- What does it mean to recycle or reuse and why does it matter?
- Practice listing things they can recycle or put in the organics bin and other items that go in the garbage.
- How can we reuse items that would otherwise end up in the garbage?
- Planting and seeds: see how a seed is planted in a small germinating container and then go through and see if they can recognize the seeds from certain fruit/vegetables.
- What environmentally friendly things do they think others can do too.
- Different ways to pack a lunch. (Maybe ideas that don’t include plastic bags.)
- Persuasive writing/drawing about how we can persuade more people to recycle and do other things to protect the earth.
This set is also available as a digital-only set by clicking here.
If you are looking for a small unit to use to teach some of these Earth day concepts, check out my other set which would be the perfect complement to Earth Day Centers.
