Description

We’ve all heard the old wives’ tale that March goes in like a lion and out like a lamb. But is it really true? Have your students find out in this engaging, problem based learning lab, aligned to the CCSS.

After presenting the problem to your students, they will have to figure out:
• What constitutes a “lion” or a “lamb” day
• How to collect data over the month
• Where to find weather reports
• What conclusion they can make after analyzing the data

You can complete this activity with your students in many different ways: small groups, whole group, even an independent project for your fast finishers!

When my 4th graders complete this project, after analyzing our data and writing our conclusions, we invite other classes to share our findings. This project has also led my 4th graders to investigate other old wives’ tales!

This is also a great activity to kick off or end a unit on weather. The possibilities are endless!
