Diptongos
What educators are saying
Description
These are great file folder word sorts to teach phonics for Spanish diphthongs, or, diptongos! I've found these resources to be great with advanced kindergarten students, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. I usually introduce this center once students have mastered their open syllables and can read words with open syllables. I begin by creating flash cards with the diptongo combinations, such as "au" or "ie." Then, we practice reading the sounds that are on each card. I model how the sound changes a bit once these two vowels are in the same syllable. Once students are ready, we do one of the file folder phonics centers together, and they practice reading and sorting the words based on their Spanish spelling patterns. It helps students to understand and build fluency when 2 vowels are in one syllable.
