This activity was inspired by Wordle, the newest internet word craze!
Students have 6 opportunities to guess the word.
This template comes with 3 Letter, 4 Letter, and 5 Letter puzzle templates that are customizable! Cells automatically determine if entries are correct!
Letters automatically turn green when they are in the correct position, correct letters in the incorrect position automatically turn yellow, and incorrect letters that do not occur in the puzzle turn grey.

We've added a new function! This hides the results of each letter until all of the letters on the row are entered! Don't worry, you have access to both types of puzzles. Check out this video for a demo!

This is a fun warm-up activity, spelling, literacy station, or word work task.
Edited 2/8/2022 - Added "Reset" button that clears the puzzle. You must enable Macros in order to use this feature.
Edited 2/10/2022 - Changed Format from a single spreadsheet to four separate spreadsheets (Instructions, 5 Letter Puzzle, 4 Letter Puzzle, 3 Letter Puzzle) so they are ready to be shared directly with students!
Edited 2/20/2022 - Currently, there is not a way to limit students from erasing answers and thus having more than 6 attempts. If this feature becomes available through Google Sheets in the future, it will be added at that time.
Edited 3/3/2022 - It was brought to my attention that one of the cells was not turning the correct color. This issue has been resolved.
Edited 3/4/2022 - Thank you for the feedback! I've added the new feature described above so the puzzle will "wait" until all boxes are filled for the row before revealing which letters are correct!
Edited 6/8/2023 - An issue was brought to my attention with the "hide reveal" puzzles. The puzzles were showing letters of the alphabet before the student entered all of the letters. This issue has been resolved! Please download a new copy!
