Description

Creative Writing
Characterization

Creative writing activities and lessons fuel a love for writing! These lessons are designed to not only tap into critical English Language Arts skills, but also to promote a joy of learning and writing. Perfect as a single lesson, substitute plan, or part of a creative writing unit, you’ll love how engaged students are with their work with each lesson and activity. The best part? Students will be begging for more opportunities to write. What’s better than that?

Creative Writing - Characterization

Help students investigate the author’s craft of characterization with these two creative writing activities.

In the Character Sketch lesson and activity student will brainstorm a character while responding to character categories. Then, they’ll take their role of an author to the next level as they write a story or journal entry based on their character sketch. The lesson includes a detailed lesson plan, a character brainstorm worksheet, and a character sketch writing paper.

The Alter Ego lesson has students first creating a character and then creating the character’s alter ego. Playing with exaggeration and word choice, students will create a dynamic character with dual personalities. This activity leads to a lot of creativity, vocabulary development, and laughter! It includes a detailed lesson plan and alter ego writing paper.
