This 70 page BC Core Competency Self Assessment resource contains a wide variety of different self assessment pages for students to choose from. In this self assessment package, the BC curriculum core competencies have been connected to the indigenous animals from The Six Cedar Trees. The Core Competencies can be abstract concepts for students. By connecting the competencies to the indigenous animals, students are better able to connect to the animals and the values they represent.

A variety of different activities for self assessment are included in this package, to meet the needs of a variety of grades and learners. Feel free to pick and choose the activities that work best for your class.

Highlights Include:

★Animal “I CAN” Statement Posters-

A set of class posters featuring the indigenous images of the animals are included, with corresponding “I CAN” statements.

★Core Competency Self Assessment Booklet-

A variety of different self reflection pages that correspond to the animals are included. Students can use these to reflect on different assignments or activities throughout the school year. Upper elementary and middle school students should have no difficulty filling the sheets out on their own. For primary students, you can scribe their thinking and then have them draw a picture of themselves using the animal qualities on the back of the page.

A cover page is also included. You can collect the completed pages throughout the year, and staple them together with the cover page to make a booklet that showcases their learning.

★Core Competency Self Assessment: Primary Pages –

These pages have been designed with the primary classroom in mind. Students can write about the ways they are like each animal, and illustrate a picture of themselves showing the qualities. For younger students, teachers can scribe and have students draw the pictures.

★Core Competency Additional Self Assessment Pages-

I have included some additional reflection pages to use with your students. These can be added to the self reflection booklet, as you see fit. Versions with indigenous images are included, for students to colour. Blank versions are also included. For these pages, students can draw a picture of themselves demonstrating the competency. For these pages, students are required to describe the qualities of each animal, and write about ways they personally show those qualities. Primary and intermediate/middle school version of each page have been included to make differentiation easy.
