What educators are saying

Great resource! My students were engaged and worked cooperatively. I really appreciated the discussion students had while using this resource.

Description

The Containment/Cold War Simulation immerses students in the various events, proxy wars, and heated scenarios which the United States dealt with throughout the Cold War. Students will learn about how the end of WW2 led to the Cold War, NATO & the Warsaw Pact, as well as most of the main events of the Cold War.

Some of the historical events included in the Simulation slides are:

Truman Doctrine - Greece/Turkey 1947

Berlin Airlift - 1948/49

Korean War: 1950-1953

Cuba - Bay of Pigs: 1961

Vietnam War: 1964-1973

Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan: 1979

CRQ Practice Scenarios:

End of World War 2 > Cold War Origins

Marshall Plan

Berlin Wall > Iron Curtain Made Manifest

Cuban Missile Crisis

Goals of the Simulation:

1. Students will make decisions regarding which strategy the United States should take to best Contain Communism in different world theatres.

2. Students must retain awareness of how their decisions can impact "World Tension Levels." The class who keeps World Tension Levels lowest "wins" the Simulation.

This is in essence, a guided notes activity along with a formative assessment which fosters student debate and collaboration as a class to evaluate and make decisions for each turn of the simulation. This activity engages students with the course content and puts them in the driver's seat to make decisions regarding the situations and events during the Cold War. Simulations allow students to connect with the content on a more personal level than just reading articles or analyzing documents.

*Comes with a Guided Notes sheet which contains multiple CRQ practice questions based off of specific slides/scenarios. Includes exit ticket questions based off of the information in the slides.*

Both the Slides & Guided Notes Sheet come together in a Google drive folder.
