Description

Are you searching for a step-by-step PowerPoint that can be used to introduce conjunctions to your students in a way that will grab their attention? You've come to the right place! This 56-slide PowerPoint focuses on combining sentences using coordinating conjunctions and subordinating conjunctions. It begins by focusing on coordinating conjunctions and teaching students the FANBOYS acronym. In the second section of the PowerPoint, subordinating conjunctions are the focus. Students learn the difference between a dependent clause and an independent clause. The rule of when to use a comma is introduced (use a comma when the subordinate conjunction begins the sentence). There are many practice slides where students join two clauses using a conjunction.

PowerPoints filled with visuals are ideal for teaching new content to students because PowerPoints tend to be highly engaging and concepts can be easily broken down into understandable chunks of information. But let's face it... they are so time-consuming to create! Fortunately, now you have an option of using one that is already complete, kid-tested, and ready to go for you!

HERE'S THE SEQUENCE OF TOPICS COVERED IN THIS POWERPOINT:

Slides 1-5: Using Conjunctions to Combine Sentences

Slides 6-15: Identifying Coordinating Conjunctions

Slides 16-25: Writing Sentences with Coordinating Conjunctions (Use a comma!)

Slides 26-37: Dependent Clauses and Independent Clauses

Slides 38-39: Identifying Subordinating Conjunctions

Slides 40-56: Writing Sentences with Subordinating Conjunctions (Use a comma when the sentence starts with a dependent clause.)

***A PowerPoint companion handout is also included in this file. Students can follow along and record answers on this handout as you progress through the PowerPoint! The companion handout is available in both printable format or digital format.**
