Make solving conic sections more fun with this engaging activity! In this activity students solve conic sections to solve a mystery. You'll love the quick and easy set-up; your students will love solving the case.

Your students will analyze a parabola, hyperbola, ellipse, and circle as they complete this engaging activity. Students will love solving the mystery and won’t even realize how much they are learning!

Choose how you would like to use these activities in your class: 

  • As a Scavenger Hunt
  • As a Digital Activity - ready for distance learning

In both versions, you are able to customize the TITLE, the SUSPECTS, the WEAPONS, and the LOCATIONS to create a unique mystery activity that is perfectly suited to your students!


This item is customizable using Adobe Acrobat Reader! Using Adobe Acrobat, you can customize:

  1. The title of your mystery -- If you don't want to use the game model where the students investigate a murder, you can now change the setting to be anything you would like! Ideas that other teachers have used include a robbery, a case of mixed-up identity, what the teacher did last weekend... whatever you can imagine!
  2. The suspects, the valuable items and the locations! Students enjoy seeing their teachers, administrators, rival schools, and local and national sports heroes included in their assignments.

Please note that the user is NOT able to edit the individual questions.
