Description
This Monkey's Paw Pack really packs a CCSS punch!
This lesson provides a link to an engaging and compelling 29 minute video of The Monkey's Paw story by W. W. Jacobs. http://vimeo.com/20009303 The companion worksheet focuses on the mood of the video and how the producer develops that mood at the outset of the story.
In addition to the video, students are given a link to an abridged version of the story. After reading the story, students are asked to compare the story events, the setting as well as their personal experience of viewing vs. reading the story.
Finally, students are asked to analyze the story and answer questions providing TEXT EVIDENCE to support their responses.
Fifth Grade Standards:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.5.2 Determine a theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the text, including how characters in a story or drama respond to challenges or how the speaker in a poem reflects upon a topic; summarize the text.
