Class Play on Spain

Spanish Class Play
Cast of 25 plus, duration 10-15 mins. This class play on Spain is one of a *set Sue Russell has written on different countries (Great Britain, England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Australia, France, Spain, Malta, India, Africa)
It celebrates all things Spanish and is a tribute to the country - its people and culture, as celebrated in Hispanic Heritage Month Sept – October, starring a rather 'full of himself' Christopher Columbus and some seriously crazy Pamplona bull runners!
Written for 7 – 11 year olds.
Another script is available for the lower age range of 5 – 7. This latter is another class play on Great Explorers, key starring roles going to Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.

Narrator: Good Morning
Whole Cast: Buenos dias!
Narrator: And welcome to our assembly on
Whole Cast: Espana!
Narrator: As you may have gathered, we have been finding out a bit about the wonderful country of Spain. Its language:
Whole cast: (Counting together, using fingers): Uno, dos, tres, cuatro, cinco, seis, siete, ocho, nueve, diez.
Narrator: Its geography:
Child 1: (Holding up map of Europe) Spain is in the south west of Europe.
Child 2: (Holding up map of Spain and bordering countries): To the west is Portugal, to the north is France and Andorra, and to the south is North Africa.
Child 3: Some cities on the north coast of Africa are Spanish - and some islands too, such as the Canary Islands and Balearic Islands.
Child 4: The capital of Spain is Madrid
(Child 5 in football gear with Real Madrid scarf/banner runs across stage)
Child 6: With Raul of Real Madrid one of the nation's great heroes!
Narrator: (Coughing) Hmm! Returning to Spanish culture - let's hear it for Spain's literaryheroes.
Child 7: Miguel de Cervantes. He wrote the great Don Quixote - what adventures hehad, trying to put the world's wrongs to rights!
Narrator: And let's not forget those amazing artists
Child 8: (Holding up painting) Salvador Dali - weird but wonderful!
Child 9: (Holding up painting) Pablo Picasso - I think you could say the same for me!
Narrator: (Pointing at Picasso) The master of cubism! And that huge painting - Guernica - that he did of the Spanish Civil War!
Child 9: Indeed. My paintings may have made me famous for my ‘funny faces' - all lopsided with noses in the wrong places! But Guernica showed the serious side of my work - the terrible destruction brought about by war.
Narrator: And nobody will ever forget the suffering of that Spanish Civil War. But Spain is now a much happier place, with a parliamentary monarch

Narrator: And
(Flamenco dancers line up on stage and perform flamenco routine)

Narrator: (Applauding) Thank you. That was magnificent.
(Enter Matador, performing elaborate bull-fighting movements with cloak)
Narrator: And of course, the brave matador - thankfully minus bull today!
(Enter Christopher Columbus, strutting around, looking important)
Narrator: And who might you be?
Columbus: (Incredulously) Who? Me? You mean, you really need to ask?
