Description
This Civil Rights Movement timeline resource includes 10 readings and several options for timeline activities to cover many of the major events of the Civil Rights era!
Concise readings are included for each event for students to read, either at stations, in groups, or individually. The 10 event readings are on:
- Brown v. The Board of Education
- The Montgomery Bus Boycott
- The Little Rock Nine
- The Greensboro Sit-ins
- The Freedom Riders
- March on Washington
- Birmingham Baptist Church Bombing
- The Civil Rights Act of 1964
- The Selma to Montgomery Marches
- The Voting Rights Act
There is both a printable PDF of each reading and an editable Google Doc version included (with links for further learning).
Students use the readings to complete the 2-page interactive timeline of the Civil Rights Movement. There are boxes which have students answering questions, drawing pictures, and analyzing each of these events.
If you prefer not to use the printable timeline, there is a Google Doc version in which students respond on a table, as opposed to the 2-page spread.
Also included is a "drag-and-drop" timeline of the events with links to several online sources. This version has students sorting the events in order and then answering questions about them.
Finally, students analyze either the Civil Rights Act or Voting Rights Act with an included primary source analysis worksheet!
This is a really great resource for reviewing the entire Civil Rights Movement or to cover a lot of events in a short period. The different options are also great for differentiation and mixing things up with a variety of options for students.
