What educators are saying

A great resource for basic information. My grandson enjoyed reading this booklet several times and was able to master all vocabulary.
Super cute emergent reader that I used with my Kinders! They loved how they could color the book after we read it together!

Description

**Christopher Columbus Day- Early Reader Kindergarten and First Grade**
Finding materials for Columbus Day for young students is always difficult!! With that thought in mind, I created this little book for Columbus Day in kindergarten (or first grade) classrooms!! It would be great to use for browsing boxes, independent reading, guided reading groups, or Read to Self.

This book has one fact per page with illustrations to support young readers. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.

Title Page: Christopher Columbus
Page 2: This is Christopher Columbus.
Page 3: He was born in Italy.
Page 4: He was an explorer.
Page 5: He had three ships.
Page 6: Here is the Nina.
Page 7: Here is the Pinta.
Page 8: Here is the Santa Maria.
Page 9: He thought the earth was round.
Page 10: He sailed across the Atlantic Ocean.
Page 11: He landed in America.
Page 12: We celebrate Columbus Day in October.

As you can see, this book is more difficult than the other emergent readers that I usually post; however, with opportunities for shared reading, kindergarteners can read this book successfully and learn about Columbus Day as well. This book would also be great for first graders around Columbus Day!!

This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!

**I am also posting a Shared Reading PowerPoint which will accompany this book perfectly; Click here for the Shared Reading PowerPoint!**

I also have a Reading and Writing Unit which includes this book, as well as a matching teacher version, a prewriting graphic organizer, writing papers, 2 labeling pages, a Columbus Day Word Wall, a word building page, and 2 word searches (different levels).
