What educators are saying

Such an awesome resource! My students were highly engaged and provided many opportunities for them to ask questions! We even described the objects which provided more language opportunities. This is a great resource for EL students!
Such an engaging resource for teaching categories! Thank you for taking the time to create this great resource!

Description

Make sorting into categories fun with these category sorting mats! This category sorting activity is used to target categorization skills both receptively and expressively.  There are 10 different category mats and 60 different item cards.

Category mats and category cards can be printed and laminated. Place hook and loop dots on the back of each category card and within the boxes on the category mats. Students can easily place these cards onto the mats when sorting. You can store the cards on each mat for an easy grab-and-go activity.

These mats can be used to target both expressive and receptive language skills. You can ask students to “find a farm animal” from an array of choices. You can also have all the items out for selected categories, and have your students sort them onto the mats.  After the items are placed, you can focus on expressive language skills by having the student state the category the item is in.  For example, the student would say "A cow is a farm animal."  There is also a visual sentence mat to assist students who need visual supports to create sentences.

SLPs AND TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID...
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Kaitlyn K. says, "This was a great interactive resource for my kiddos learning about categories. The bright colors of the materials were exciting for the students and it was a fun way to target divergent and convergent categorization, along with introducing some new vocabulary for each category."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Courtney S. says, "I freaked out when I downloaded this one! I LOVE that you have 2 different levels for the icons. One of them has a set that is color-coded while another set has just the black lines for students ready for more of a challenge."
