What educators are saying

I laminated these cards and then let my student use vowel letter tiles. It was a fun way to practice reading the words.
This has been a very useful tool to use with my students still learning CVC words. I also love that his included the beginning, middle, and end words as well as an oppotunity for them to completely build the word on their own. I used this in guided groups/phonics groups.

Description

These engaging CVC words worksheets and activities will help your kindergarten and first grade students gain confidence in reading consonant-vowel-consonant words. The CVC words activity cards give students practice identifying initial, medial, and final sounds. Additionally, by reinforcing consonant-vowel-consonant patterns, you will help students improve decoding and fluency skills. They are perfect for both small group instruction and independent literacy centers.

What materials can my students use to complete this CVC words activity?

They can be used with letter tiles, magnetic letters, foam letters, or dry erase markers.

How are the cards differentiated?

There are 68 unique cards offered in color and black & white but each card is included with each sound missing so you get FOUR complete sets.

The cards are separated into the following four sections:

Beginning Sounds: students identify the first letter of each word.

Middle Sounds: students identify the missing vowel sounds.

Ending Sounds: students identify the last letter of each word.

Word Building: students build a complete CVC word.

Why is this type of activity recommended?

You can learn more about how pictures can be helpful in teaching CVC words in a blog post here.

Do I need to use all four versions at the same time?

No, the cards are separated into four sections so you can choose to focus on a particular skill independently. After students have mastered all sections, you can mix the cards together for review.

Are there recording sheets?

Due to the large number of cards and many choices in the way, they could be divided for use, recording sheets are not included. However, there are four worksheets at the end that can be used for a quick assessment. There are also five word searches that are great for morning work or early finishers.

Here's what other teachers are saying about these CVC words activities:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️This is a wonderful collection of activities to help any student improve their skills! It has given my struggling students the confidence they needed to grow!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I use this CVC activity as an independent task where the students can either write in the missing letter or use a magnetic letter to fill in for the missing letter. Having a visual on each card really helps the students. I highly recommend this set!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This has been a game changer for my students! They love the practice of sounding out words and finding the missing sound.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️These are amazing! I love that these have options of a missing initial, medial, ending sound or all sounds students need to identify. This made it easy to differentiate for my students. I love that there is a color and black and white option as well. My students really enjoyed the activities.

Do you have any other CVC activity and worksheet resources?

Yes, you can find CVC Words Worksheets, Simple Sentences with CVC Words that can be used as clip cards or a Write the Room, and a CVC Phonics Games Bundle for Beginning Medial and Ending Sounds in my store.
