What educators are saying

Great practice for my kiddo at home. Clark Creative Math products keep his interest while reinforcing skills.
I love these "games" it's a great way to get the students to practice topics and it doesn't look like a normal worksheet. It also allows them to work together and learn off of each other.

Description

Nothing like a good criminal investigation to liven up transformations! In this project, students will work in teams to investigate the culprit of six fictional thefts. The criminal has left six messages, layered with geometry practice. Teams will work to build a case and present their findings to the court. Hopefully they are convincing enough to win the verdict.

I like to use these puzzles as review before the unit test. The puzzle solving hook causes many different students to engage in solving traditionally mundane problems. Be the cool teacher :-)

In this 20 page document you will be given an outline for how to implement the project, an answer key and six challenging crime scene puzzles.

This puzzle includes problems featuring the following skills: Translations, Rotations, Reflections, Dilation, and Tessellations

An answer key has been added to the end of the file for your convenience.

Verify experimentally the properties of rotations, reflections, and translations:
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is congruent to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, and translations; given two congruent figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the congruence between them.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
Understand that a two-dimensional figure is similar to another if the second can be obtained from the first by a sequence of rotations, reflections, translations, and dilations; given two similar two-dimensional figures, describe a sequence that exhibits the similarity between them.
Develop definitions of rotations, reflections, and translations in terms of angles, circles, perpendicular lines, parallel lines, and line segments.
