What educators are saying

This was a fantastic resource. We combined two classes to create the poster. Once all the pieces were completed, we hung the poster in the hall. Our students received so many great compliments about their work! Thank you so much for this fabulous resource!
I always love doing your art activities with my class. This one was a hit in the hallway. My students wrote bios for each person and we put them below each one. We had kids from all grade levels stopping to read about them.

Description

In this BUNDLE, you will find Volume 1 and Volume 2 of my Famous Faces® of Black History collaboration posters combined! I have reorganized the pages and layout from the two separate, individual resources to make it simple and easy to use.

Do something for Black History Month that your students won't soon forget! Use it all year long to keep the importance of these conversations going. The final poster is about 14 feet long(!) and includes 16 notable figures from African American history. It serves as a striking visual inspiration to your students and school community.

My collaboration posters are easy for teachers and fun for kids and make a lasting impression—on students, parents, and your entire school community! This poster is large and visually striking and the perfect accompaniment to your social studies lessons and/or Black History Month celebrations.

It makes for an excellent display for the front office, the auditorium, a hallway, or your classroom. No matter where it ends up; it will engender unending compliments and conversations while proving a source of inspiration for your students and school community.

There are many options for this project. I have explained them all here. Please read through this description and review the preview. This poster combines my Famous Faces® of Black History posters Volume 1 and Volume 2.

The collaborative aspect of this Black History Month poster makes a big impact without really having to say anything. Every single piece of the poster matters, just as every child in the class matters. Your students will walk by and say, "I did that piece!" each time they see the poster. They take great pride in being part of this art project.

Differentiation is built into the design of this Famous Faces of Black History Month collaboration poster. Some pages have more to color than others; some kids will easily color two pages. Other pages have a lot of little details to color. You can use this to differentiate and provide the appropriate experience for each child to succeed and be part of the group.

*****Black History Month Poster BUNDLE Details*****

• There are 3 rows and 24 columns for a total of 72 pieces.

• The final poster is approx. 21" x 168" when complete. The exact size will depend on your printer settings (and there are instructions for making the poster smaller in the resource).

• This Black History Month poster is ideal for a large bulletin board or a hallway.

• There are 2 poster options–making this poster work for pretty much any grade level!

• Each poster piece fits on a standard 8.5" x 11" piece of paper.

• There are alternative pages included so your poster can either say "Black History Month" or "African American History Month." or you can leave the title off so you can use this any time of the year.

• Use markers, colored pencils, or crayons.

• The colors you will need are red, blue, pink, purple, and green.

• You can leave the background white or use a very light color for the background (explained in the resource).

*Note: If you plan to laminate this poster, don't use crayons because oftentimes, the heat from the laminator will melt the wax from the crayons and ruin the poster.

*****2 Poster Options*****

Poster #1: The first version of the poster has the color key in black and white with instructions and notes printed at the top telling the students exactly what they need to do on their page (see the preview for examples). You will need to print the page in black and white for this option. There are complete instructions in the resource for you.

Poster #2: The second version of this poster has the color key actually in full color. If you can print in color, please use this poster. It will be easier for students to know precisely how their pieces should be colored. It's also beneficial for younger children who might not yet be able to read and will save you from running around the room reading the different instructions to the kids (see the preview for examples).

This poster is part of my Famous Faces® series, which includes:

I hope your students enjoy this Black History month poster and, no doubt, all the meaningful conversations that will come from it! It's essential to have these conversations all year. I encourage you to use this poster not only in February but throughout the year.
