Biochemistry {Carbohydrates Lab}

This hands-on macromolecules lab is a student favorite for sure! This is a 4-page lab activity packet with steps for constructing glucose and fructose molecules using mini marshmallows and toothpicks. Students will then join their molecules in order to form sucrose. The lab contains a short introduction, procedure steps for making the molecules, pre-lab and analysis questions. Teacher tips are also included. Designed for standard level biology.

Approximate time to complete lab: 35-45 minutes


Materials needed for activity (not included):
→ Colored miniature marshmallows
→ White miniature marshmallows
→ Toothpicks
→ Science-loving students
