What educators are saying

We are using this as our year and final project. It s a great way to demonstrate what students have learned. I liked the pacing, I just wish there were a few more scaffolding activities included. Example we added a glossary based on the vocabulary my students used in their stories.
Very useful and ready to use resource. Students enjoyed working on it and it help them learn the material

Description

This 4-day (for 50-minute classes) project is designed to be a dual-language children's book in Spanish using the preterite tense. There are both paper and digital Google Slides versions. Students narrate the adventures of a favorite cartoon character (clipart not provided), writing where s/he went and what s/he did, and coloring in the pictures and scenery. Students also write an "Author's Biography" paragraph and a "Dedication Page" for fun. It is a dual-language project so that students can take their completed projects home and teach their younger siblings or cousins!

This project includes:

  • a rubric
  • a rough draft form
  • an example "Author's Biography"
  • an example "Dedication Page"
  • a teacher's guide with suggestions for how to guide students through the project
  • links to the rubric, rough draft, example Author's Bio, example Dedication page, and template on Google Slides

The rubric includes a checklist of all tasks students must complete, broken down by day. The rubric requires students to include forms of ir in the preterite and regular -AR verbs, however the vocabulary could be expanded to include other irregular verbs, -car/-gar/-zar verbs, or any other special verbs.

This project could easily be modified for another tense (present or future!), or a particular set of vocabulary. Your students are guaranteed to have fun, demonstrate their mastery of the preterite, and impress you with their creativity!
