What educators are saying

My students were engaged in the banned book project. The templates were great! We used it as a pre-reading activity for To Kill a Mockingbird.
I used this in addition to some resources from the American Library Association for a mini research project. My kids had a GREAT discussion about the ethical implications of banning books.

Description

This Banned Books Week activity is the perfect research project for middle school and high school students to dive into deep discussions around censorship and book banning. Students will be responsible for conducting research about banned books and identifying a banned book to present to their classmates.

This student-centered project contains over 40 pages of instructional materials that will help guide teachers and students through this activity. Students will LOVE that they get to learn more about banned books and get to create a small project instead of writing an essay about a specific banned book. In addition, there is an optional extension activity that requires students to create a short written response explaining why people should read the banned book that they have selected.
