This argumentative text pack includes three sets of original passages designed to engage students as they read and collect evidence and elements of argumentative texts. Each set tells both sides of the debate, one for and one against.
After students read both passages on the same topic, they decide which one convinced them more with more supportive reasons, evidence, and examples.
Everything you need is included: 3 sets of paired passages, anchor charts, graphic organizers, questions, and student practice pages!
Each set of paired passages follows the same format to scaffold:
- read the passage
- find the claim, reasons, intended audience
- highlight the counterclaim
- section to write about the supporting reasons (back)
- two reader response questions (back)
Also included are four anchor charts to guide your instruction and teach students how to write a nonfiction summary. Anchor charts included are:
