Description

Use this informational writing research graphic organizer as a template to give students a hands on and engaging way to make animal research fun! This animal report project is the perfect way to introduce beginning research and practice reading nonfiction text. Teach students to write an animal report at their own level with differentiated resources.

Included are 2 levels of flip books for students to fill out about an animal, a sticky note activity that will help students organize their initial research, and lined paper for students to write a paper report.

Classroom Use:

•Reading Center—Have various nonfiction animal books, articles or other informational texts available. Have students choose an animal to research and complete the sticky note activity and/or a flip book.

•Guided Reading—Choose an informational text about an animal at an appropriate level for each group. Read about the animal together and fill out a flip book report together.

•Independent Work—Let students read a passage or book and fill out a sticky note activity and/or a flip book at their desks or for homework.

•Jigsaw—Split students into groups. Assign a different animal to each group. Have them work together to fill out a report for their animal. Re-group students so there is 1 expert for each animal in the new group. Let each student take a turn teaching the rest of the group about their animal.

• Provide students with books or articles to research about their animal.

• Give each student a sticky note graphic organizer, plus 6-12 sticky notes.
