What educators are saying

This was nice early work with the Greek Unit we do. The kids wrote their names in Greek and many have continued to write in Greek for their projects. Fabulous!
Beautifully laid out, applicable and simple to use. I was happy to have found this to go along with my other resources.

Description

I have used this activity many times as a starting point for studying the Ancient Greeks. The lesson plan/activity includes an introduction to the Greek alphabet, hints for writing your name using the ancient Greek alphabet, and some text examples of modern names written with the Greek alphabet. There is also a chart showing the Greek alphabet and the English sound each letter makes. I have also included images of nine different nametags completed by my students in the past years when they worked on this activity.

TIPS: I recommend first having the students writing their Greek-lettered name on the thick white art paper (approximate measurements of nametag are 30 cm x 10 cm) with a pencil. Spacing and equal sizing of the letters is vital. Then have them make the letters into block form and fill those in with black marker. Finally, they can do the background in any design of their choice with colored pencil. The effect and contrast are then very nice! This resource contains examples of what my students do with this project!

Students end creating a name tag which you can laminate and attach to the corner of their desk. Alternately, they can be placed on a classroom bulletin board in a design pattern. They love it and it makes a great impression when visitors come into your social studies class!
