This is the ninth full lesson in our 18-week full-semester course - American Music History. It is the first lesson in the second half of the course called - The Branches.

Our American Music History Course explores the timeline of American music in the context of American history as students gain an appreciation for American music and a contextual understanding of our diverse cultural history.

In Lesson 9 - Motown, students discover the influence of Motown amid a period of unrest in the country during the Civil Rights Movement.

This is a content-rich lesson that engages students as they develop an understanding of American music and cultural history. I have taught this course in person in a middle school setting and the online version of this course has been utilized by teachers and high school students in several public charter schools in California and homeschoolers. Students love this course!
