Description
American Born Chinese by Gene Luen Yang deals with so many topics that are extremely relevant to students. In this mini-quest (as I like to call it), students will explore the topics of stereotypes, Gene Luen Yang, Chinese mythology concerning the Monkey King, and their own identities.
This mini-quest contains 9 questions and utilizes three outside sources to help students gain a good background for the novel, but it also asks students to reflect on their own identities. The accompanying activity is meant to be used in small groups in class, and asks students to confront how they share their own identities in a social context.
This resource is a fantastic way to start out a unit on American Born Chinese and will prime students to be receptive to some of the most critical concepts in the novel.
All materials are editable.
