Description

In this "A Rose for Emily" short story lesson plan you'll find an updated twist on a classic. It is an excellent model for teaching close reading and making connections across texts. Everything is planned and neatly organized for you to use immediately.

Student Experience: How far would you go for love? Is Miss Emily in Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" truly in love or just insane? In this unit, students will examine how Faulkner painted a crafty picture of a woman scorned, a nosy southern town, and a murder mystery of sorts. Students will dig through the text and respond to comprehension questions and a variety of skill-specific analysis tasks. They can move around with the human plot puzzle, and they can get creative with the character collage project. Then, with the modern and surprisingly real-world connection to your study of Faulkner's "love story" for a paired-text connection, your students will be shocked, awed, and interested for sure!
