Description

Here is a 20% OFF BUNDLE of my students' 3 FAVORITE HOLIDAY MATH lessons! They are project-based, hands-on, and encourage cooperative learning. Lessons include student packets, answer keys, extensive teacher notes, Common Core Math Standards, and activity pictures from my classroom.

PUMPKIN MATH, SCIENCE, & DATA ANALYSIS is packed with estimation, measurement, and data analysis! Students use the scientific method in this pumpkin math and science activity as they explore if any characteristic of a pumpkin (height, weight, or circumference) relates to the number of seeds inside. In cooperative groups, students first estimate the height, weight, circumference, and the number of seeds inside all of the pumpkins. Each group then finds the actual measurements for their given pumpkin and shares their findings with the class. A Pumpkin Graph visual is created as the students gather their data, they write and discuss their conclusions, and they are always curious to find the differences between their estimates and the actual measurements. This activity takes approximately 90-120 minutes and can be broken easily into a 2-3 day activity. I even bake the pumpkin seeds the following day. My students look forward to eating them as we finish our conclusions and discussion the next day:-)

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY TREE CONE MATH has students create an edible holiday math treat as they explore geometry, measurement, and problem solving! The 4-page student packet is split into 2 parts. In Part 1, students connect the ideas of diameter and radius to a sugar cone. They then create a holiday tree cone from a their sugar cone, a sugar cookie, and frosting - decorating it with M&Ms and sprinkles. In Part 2, students explore more challenging word problems, estimation, and calculations. This activity takes about 90 minutes.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY LUCKY CHARMS PROBABILITY & PROBLEM SOLVING is set up as a lab, using the scientific method to explore the probability of eating specific marshmallows in Lucky Charms and to use the cereal's nutritional facts for further problem solving. A bar graph activity & rubric is also included, which you can use as an extension activity or extra credit. This activity takes about 90 minutes, not including the bar graph.
