Description

This project requires students to cut out the outlines of the 13 original colonies and then paste the thirteen colonies where they go on a map. The students also have to label each colony. I used this as an assessment to ensure my students knew what the colonies look like and where they go. Includes outlines of Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Virginia. This activity worked very well for my OT specialist's cutting and fine motor goals as well. As a further extension you can have the students cut out the colonies and place PlayDoh or Magic Model clay on top and use a knife to cut the dough, then have the students put the dough pieces together to have a clay map (Note: PlayDoh tends to crack and fall apart more than the MagicModel air dry clay).

I used this activity after the students had completed my other mapping project where they had to label the regions, occupations, major settlements, etc. and research project which can both be found in my store. As further assessment, I have them play my 13 colonies game, which reinforces their knowledge and gives me answers to quiz questions, also found in my store.

I use all of these activities for my subseparate special education classroom, but it could be used for an inclusion or typical classroom as well!
